Salaam everyone. Today’s episode is a follow-up to last week’s.

After deciding to keep Ramadan simple and intentional, the next step is learning how to be kind to yourself when things do not go as planned. Many of us begin the month with a calm, focused mindset, but somewhere along the way we miss a goal, skip a habit, or have a day where our energy is low. Instead of gently returning, we become harsh with ourselves. We think, “I already messed up, so what’s the point?” This mindset is one of the biggest causes of spiritual burnout.

Returning Is the Goal

The truth is, growth was never meant to be perfect. Your journey to Allah will always include ups and downs. Some days your heart will feel full and present. Other days, you may feel distracted or tired. What matters most is not how perfect your routine looks, but how quickly you return when you fall off. Ramadan is not about performing at your highest level every day—it is about coming back, again and again, with sincerity.

Learning to Reset

One of the most powerful habits you can build this month is the ability to reset. At any moment, you can begin again. If you had a busy day and did not read Qur’an, start the next day. If you missed a night prayer, make a short du’a before sleeping. If your focus in salah felt weak, do not let guilt push you away. Instead, let it pull you closer. The door is always open.

It may also help to remember that the heart has seasons and that iman fluctuates. Some days you will feel deeply connected, and other days your ibadah may feel simple and quiet. Both are valuable to your Lord, who is Ash-Shakur, the Most Appreciative. When you are exhausted from work or school and your body is calling you to rest, yet you still get up to pray—is that not sincerity? Is that not worship, even when you do not feel it?

I pray your Ramadan is filled with moments of sincerity, return, and gentle progress. May Allah accept even your smallest efforts, meet you with mercy each time you turn back to Him, and allow this month to draw you closer in ways you may not even realize.
